Displacement

 The collaboration between Holly Goodridge and Shan Dante will conduct further research into queer theory and expanded painting, one that aims to interrupt the expected and create a sur-reality; a new geography of free-flowing ‘existence’. Our proposed project would be a continuation of research, delving into queer and expanded painting theorists such as Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, Heather Love, Ane Ring Peterson and Isabella Graw, as well as discovering the historical use of performativity within the context of location, medium, and audience. Through using performative art practice, painting, and relational installation work, our practice and research will merge, critiquing the normative notions of geography and body. This will result in a work that dismantes the expected through a presentation of ‘the extra’, a form, expression, and structure that recognizes and embraces the state of the ‘queer-other’.  

The project ‘Flux Point’ explores the experience of ‘queer-otherness’ within heterotopia’s, both from a queer and neurodivergent perspective. As bodies facing the struggles of not fitting within a normative social convention, our artistic practice has been a way to reject the assimilation of ‘mass identities’, and alternatively, embrace a state of something indistinguishable. This collaboration amalgamated when discovering similar themes within our work and lifestyles. Specifically, the means to create a position of existence for the other, one that allows for the present-state of exploration, and a future acceptance of an indeterminate expansion. By working in collaboration, both our skill sets of practice and research can be conjoined into a finalized form. A project that aims to promote the merging of bodies, identities, and expressions into a position that continually develops and expands. One that is ultimately called, the ‘flux point’.
